Foundation Chain

First of all, crochet 106 foundation half double crochet stitches. Different form simple chains at the beginning of your crochet blanket, foundation half double crochet creates a neater border for your blanket.

Second, we will crochet a foundation row. While you won’t be repeating this row, it creates a nice foundation for the first repeat row of the stitch.

Row 1

Ch 3, *sc into the first st, ch 2, dc into the same st, dc into the next st, ch 1, sk 1 st*, repeat to the end of the row, sc into the last st.

Ch 3, sk one dc st, *fpsc into the next st, ch 2, fpdc into the same stitch, dc between this st and next st. Ch1, sk the next st, ch 1, and the next dc stitch.* Repeat between * * until the end of the row. Sc into the last ch space.
