Finished Size

30″ x 30″

Note if you want a bigger blanket, you will use more than one skein of yarn. For example, for the 36″ x 36″ blanket, I’ve used 1 and 1/4 skeins of Bernat Baby Sport Yarn. Consequently, you would have to buy 2 skeins.

Directions

Practice Swatch – Learn this Simple crochet stitch

First of all, I always recommend crocheting a sample swatch before starting your project. You’ll understand the pattern better and won’t make some unavoidable mistakes.

First, chain any multiple of 5+1 (25+1 ch).

Row 1 – Foundation Row

Second, let’s crochet the foundation row. This row establishes the pattern but you won’t be repeating it afterward.

SC into 2nd CH from the hook. DC into next CH. CH 1. SK 1 CH,  *4 DC into next 4 CH; CH 1; SK 1 CH* Repeat * * to the end of the row until you have 2 CH left. DC & SC into the last 2 CH. CH 3, turn

Row 2

CH 3 represents the 1st DC. Now, put your hook under the front post of the next DC, and grab the yarn, and pull it through. 2 loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull it through 2 loops. (FPSC). To understand this stitch better, watch the video tutorial (at 2:53).

CH 3, 3 DC into CH SP. *SK 3 DC of the previous row, FPSC – SC under the front post of the next (4th) DC. CH 3; 3 DC into CH SP.* Repeat * * to the end of the row. Last stitch – SC into SC of the previous row. CH 3, turn

Row 3

DC into the first stitch. *SK 3 DC of the previous row, FPSC – front post SC under the front post of next (4th) DC. CH 3; 3 DC into CH SP.*  Last stitch – SC into the last stitch of the previous row.
