How long should a crochet scarf be?
The good rule of thumb for the length of the scarf is that it should be as long as the height of the person you are crocheting for. Usually, women’s scarfs are about 50-65 inches long. Men’s scarf can be as long as 70 inches.
Keep in mind, with this free crochet pattern, we took the guesswork out of the equation as you would need only one skein of yarn to complete your fast crochet scarf.
What is Treble Crochet?
The treble crochet (or triple crochet) is one of the basic crochet stitches and is a little taller than double crochet. Its abbreviation is: tr = treble (triple) crochet.
With our step-by-step clear photo tutorial, learning this fast treble crochet stitch for a scarf will be so easy!
To make treble crochet, first, create a foundation chain plus 4 more chains.
Start with wrapping your yarn twice around the hook.
Next, insert the hook into the 5th chain from the hook and draw another loop (4 loops on the hook).
Grab your yarn again with the hook (5 loops on the hook) and draw the yarn through 2 loops (3 loops on the hook).
Yarn over and draw the yarn through the next two loops (2 loops on the hook).
Yarn over and draw the yarn through the last two loops (1 loop on the hook).
You made your FIRST TREBLE CROCHET stitch!
The technique for treble crochet is the same for your first row and all consequential rows. The only difference will be that starting with row 2, you’ll be crocheting into chain spaces instead of foundation chain.
To become a real treble-maker, practice this easy crochet stitch on a small swatch before you start your scarf. It will help you master the technique and be on your way for crocheting this fast treble stitch scarf.
Step 1
First, wrap your yarn twice around the hook.
Step 2
Next, insert the hook into the chain space and draw another loop (4 loops on the hook).
Step 3
Grab your yarn again with the hook (5 loops on the hook) and draw the yarn through 2 loops (3 loops on the hook).
Step 4
Yarn over and draw the yarn through the next two loops (2 loops on the hook).
When you draw the yarn, make sure you pull it only through the first two loops!
At the end of this step, you’ll have 2 loops on the hook.
Step 5
Yarn over and draw the yarn through the last two loops. (1 loop on the hook) – treble crochet completed!
Now you would have only 1 loop on the hook – treble crochet completed!
Now you are ready to try this fast Treble Crochet Scarf that is perfect for a cool night on the beach or a lakeside getaway.

Pattern Notes
When you decide to get the yarn for this pattern, you can use weekly 40% off coupon. To have access, add Hobby Lobby’s mobile app or get it on the website. Secondly, you can wait until the periodical yarn sale (usually, 30% – 40% off all yarn).
There are lots of colors available on the Hobby Lobby website if you prefer a different shade for this unique scarf pattern. You can shop online and have the yarn shipped to your home – very fast and convenient.
I’ve chosen to use a different size crochet hook (crochet hook G/6 – 4.25 mm) than the one recommended for this yarn (US I-9 – 5.5mm) because I like my trebles to be a little tighter.
It is practical to buy a whole set of crochet hooks so you can always have the right tool when you need it.
Do a practice swatch to see which crochet hook works best for YOU for this fast treble crochet pattern. This fast crochet scarf pattern uses only 2 basic crochet stitches: chain and treble crochet.
Step-by-step Tutorial for Fast Treble Crochet Scarf
Foundation chain
Chain 35 plus 4 chains (counts as first tr).
Row 1
Make 1 tr into the 5th chain form the hook. Ch 1, skip one chain of the foundation chain.
Make the next tr into the next chain.
Continue the same pattern to the end of the row and make the last tr into the last chain for the foundation chain.
Ch 4, turn.
Row 2 (and all the rows)
Make 1 tr into the first chain space. Ch1. Make another tr into the next chain space. Continue to the end of the row and make the last tr into the last chain space.
Row 3 – 95
Repeat row 2 until your scarf is almost finished.
Finishing touches
I’ve decided to add some fringe to this light and airy scarf. In order to do that, make sure you have enough yarn to finish the project. As everyone’s tension is slightly different, you may end up with a different count of rows for your finished scarf.
My suggestion is to cut the yarn pieces that you would need for the finishing fringe before you finish the scarf. This way you can be sure that you have enough yarn to complete this fast crochet scarf.
When you are approaching the end of the project, unravel your yarn cake and start measuring and cutting identical pieces for the fringe that you’ll attach later. You would need 38 pieces of yarn where each is 16 inches long (for both ends of the finished scarf).
When you are done, just finish as many rows as you can to use up all the yarn. Secure the end tail and attach all fringe yarn pieces making a secure knot through chain spaces.
Instead of weaving the ends, I’ve just secured the tail as one piece of the fringe tieing it with the other yarn pieces with a double knot.
Trim the ends, if needed, to make sure all fringe yarn tails are the same length.
I love how this simple modern crochet pattern creates a fast and airy crochet scarf with gentle classic colors and soft gradient texture. Trendy chevron graphic pattern makes this fast crochet scarf unique.
