How to Make EDC (Extended Double Crochet)

The Extended Double Crochet (EDC) is a variation of the standard double crochet stitch that adds a bit of extra height to the standard DC stitch. It is taller than a double crochet (DC) but shorter than a treble (triple) crochet (TR).

To make EDC: yarn over once, like for a regular DC. Insert your hook into the designated stitch or chain space, yarn over, and pull up a loop. Next, the extension step: yarn over and pull through only the first loop on your hook. This creates the extra height, like the chain at the base of the stitch. Complete the stitch as you would complete the regular double crochet.

We will use Extended Double Crochet (EDC) at the edges of the shawl (as the last stitch of the row), so the triangle keeps its natural shape.
